No matter how you slice it — or sip it — bourbon can be your best friend. Since National Bourbon Day is basically the pre-Father’s Day holiday, here are some cocktails and festivities to enjoy.
Manhattan — One of the two greats in the bourbon cocktail world. The traditional mix has bourbon, bitters, sweet vermouth and garnishes, but bartenders are starting to get more creative with ingredients.
Old Fashioned — This is the other bourbon great. Old Fashioned drinks are often the signature at upscale bars, but the classic mix always works. Bourbon, simple syrup and bitters makes up the mix.
Mint Julep — Yes, Mint Juleps have bourbon in them. The syrup and mint leaves mask the sting of bourbon and create a Kentucky Derby-ready delicacy to enjoy.
Whiskey Sour — To settle the debate, it’s only a real sour if it features egg white. Get it served with a whipped, foamy egg white and the standard lemon juice and simple syrup.
